After packing my Burley Jett Creek, long wheelbase recumbent bike in a large, modified HD TV box, and loading it into my pickup truck, I headed for Tom Bohman's house in Cincinnati, not far from Miami Whitewater Park. I wrapped the box in blue tarp to prevent it from getting wet in the event of rain, which luckily never happened. Tom packed his traditional diamond frame Kona Jack road bike in a similar, but smaller box for the train ride to his brother's house in Vancouver, WA.
At Tom's house, I was pleased to meet Tom's daughter Meghan, and Carol, the woman he is now dating. Like my daughter Pam, Carol teaches english to people in the US who have moved here from other countries. Pam, on the other hand is in Hampyeong, Korea, teaching english to people who attend school in the Korean public school system. Carol blessed our bikes with holy water from Lourdes. Now that I'm not very catholic, I was afraid the water might cause part of me to melt, but no worries!
